Ewelina Kaczmarczyk
Editor in Chief
I am a journalist and literary scholar. I graduated with a Polish Studies degree specializing in
anthropological and cultural studies. I am preparing for my PhD at the Faculty of Polish
Studies at Jagiellonian University, focusing on contemporary migration literature. I gained
journalistic experience at Onet.pl and the monthly magazine “Znak.” In addition to these
media, I have also published in Nowa Europa Wschodnia. I write about migrations, literature,
and sometimes psychology.
I have been with the organization since December 2022. The topics addressed by Salam
Lab in its media have been close to me for a long time. I wanted to be part of an
independent medium that avoids stereotypes, showcases human stories, and helps to
address topics such as migration, Islam, and other cultures. I manage the editorial office
from A to Z 🙂 I plan our work rhythm, oversee the publication calendar, and ensure the
quality of our texts. Additionally, I write, talk to people, and conduct live meetings. I edit and
proofread. I look for new topics and support fundraising efforts. I co-create the Peaceful
Newsletter, which we publish every two weeks. And much more 🙂
What does empathy mean to you?
Empathy means approaching another person’s story with tenderness, trying to understand
and somehow “feel into” another person’s story. It is an attitude of openness and
acceptance, filled with kind curiosity.
Which element of Salam Lab’s mission is most important to you?
Definitely, “Amplifying the voices of those experiencing exclusion.” I love the opportunity in
journalism to talk to people whose stories should be heard at the moment of meeting. I
believe that our human stories and conversations make and will continue to make Polish
society open up to diversity, step by step.
