Injured hands of pregnant woman living in a Greek refugee camp became a symbol

These are the hands of Mahmoodi Rait, a woman in advanced pregnancy who recently set herself on fire in an act of despair.

“The only reason she set her on fire was because of the terrible conditions in the camp,” says Mahmoodi’s husband.

The woman is still in the hospital, the husband stayed in the tent with their three children: 7, 5 and 1.5 years old.

The police accused her of setting the camp on fire, which formally belongs to the Greek government.

We got to know this story thanks to the @Now_You_See_Me_Moria profile on Instagram, which is run by refugees who passed through the Moria camp.

The authors of this profile ask for publicity about the tragic, catastrophic situation of refugees in Greece.
